Why did you build Sharefile?
It all started from a sad observation. There is no free file-sharing solution that respects users privacy. No other platform met our expectations. A sharing platform should be simple, free, with lots of features and as limitless as possible. So I decided to create my own solution. Sharefile was born.
Is Sharefile free?
Yes! Sharefile provides one of the most generous free tiers available, offering:
- Unlimited file size uploads
- No restrictions on the number of uploads
- Access to advanced file management tools
Do I need an account?
With Sharefile, you can access advanced features without needing an account, enabling you to upload, manage, and share files as a guest. For added convenience, you can organize all your uploads effortlessly in one centralized location.
Does Sharefile have a desktop app?
We are currently developing a dedicated desktop application that will enable seamless local file synchronization, making file management even more efficient and convenient.
How does Sharefile handle privacy?
Privacy has been a cornerstone of Sharefile's design from the very beginning. We ensure your privacy by:

How secure is my data?
At Sharefile, security is our top priority. We ensure the safety of your data and our infrastructure through industry-leading measures, including:
- Multi-region data replication across multiple disks to guarantee complete redundancy
- Server-side encryption to protect against unauthorized physical access
- Strictly restricted physical access, limited exclusively to our authorized team
- Comprehensive user security controls, such as:
- Private folder settings
- Password-protected uploads
- Customizable direct link permissions
Since our launch, we’ve maintained a flawless security record: zero file loss, no software vulnerabilities, and no successful cyberattacks. This reflects our unwavering commitment to safeguarding your data at all times.
We utilize server-side encryption to safeguard against unauthorized physical access. However, we do not perform client-side encryption, as it would interfere with features that require server-side content access. For enhanced security, users are encouraged to encrypt their files locally using tools like 7zip before uploading them to Sharefile.
Where is Sharefile hosted?
When you upload a file, the data location is set to "Automatic" by default. This option selects a storage location in the region closest to the requester based on their location. Sharefile operates globally with strategically placed data centers in the following regions:
- Western North America
- Eastern North America
- Western Europe
- Eastern Europe
- Asia-Pacific
- Oceania
We also implement Jurisdictional Restrictions to ensure that data stored in each bucket remains within a specific legal jurisdiction.
What are the network performances?
Sharefile is hosted on dozens of very powerful servers with high bandwidth. There is no restrictions on network speed. You download at the maximum speed of your connection. However, the service is necessarily limited in capacity since I finance the infrastructure myself.
